Recent Listening - August 18
Dispatch of summertime songs below. I had the pleasure of listening to most of this music away from Los Angeles. In Paris, on the train to Toulouse, Santa Cruz Island, barrelling down Highway 1.
Area - The Perfect Dream
I have zero idea how I stumbled across this, but through and through a perfect dream-pop record. Deeply worth checking out if you like Cocteau Twins, The Wake, For Against, etc.
Purchase here.
Brånd - Tåg & Nåcht
Bizarre LP. Not quite post-punk, not quite black metal, vocals that sometimes yodel and croon. Insane riffs and range. Truly all over the place.
This was released by longtime friend Andrea Napoli of Avant!. I'll need the scoop next time our paths cross.
Lalleshwari - Lullabies In A Glass Wilderness
Perhaps people are already familiar with this one, but seems I missed the boat.
Top tier weirdo mode. Hauntingly beautiful melodies, strikingly minimal production that makes you wish you had the same swag and ideas, and over an hour long without turning boring.
Si Moiré Disques - Tiny Creatures (Compilation)
As with all good compilations, this has sent me down a few rabbit-holes and introduced me to artists that I'll undoubtedly stick with over the next couple of years.
My favourite tracks are by artists Lee Hills, Dona Casque (who are touring the West Coast currently - go see!), and Voxish Creek.
Paweł Mykietyn - EO (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
I've not seen this film, but have been listening to the soundtrack while reading Cormac McCarthy's The Border Trilogy. Creates space for the imagination to roam and thus goes hard.
